Week1A: My Template
Hello,
I chose this template because I wanted to be able to add an author picture because I think it helps to connect with the audience. Not all of the templates had that option, at least as far as I could see. I actually would have preferred the sidebar to be on the right so that the reader's eye is drawn to the content first. I will try to experiment more to see if I can change the layout.
I wanted a clean, but not boring font for the headings but a normal, easy to read font for the body.
I had a hard time finding a picture I liked, so I chose the figs for now since I like the colors and I like figs. In fact I have a story about figs.
When I was growing up in Louisiana, we lived next to my Granny Nez. All my cousins lived near as well and we would play at her house as a central location. Of course, one of our favorite games was Hide and Seek. We would often hide in the thick lush branches of the fig tree.... and gorge on those luscious figs at every opportunity. About 18 years ago I visited my Granny and I was able to get a cutting from that very same tree. Now I have many fig trees descended from her tree. Many of my friends and neighbors also have trees. My Granny's fig tree is the gift that keeps on giving. She has now passed away, but every fig season I think about her daily as I stand by the tree and eat figs to my heart's content.

Janet,
ReplyDeleteLove the theme you chose. Your post made me think of my grandma and the things she passed down to me. Great post!
Thank you Marie. It's good to keep those warm memories alive.
DeleteHello Janet,
ReplyDeleteI really like your template. It is plain, but eye catching. I have a similar story of playing hide and seek. The only difference is the trees. The trees I played in was apricot trees. It wasn't until I was older when I wondered if they sprayed the trees with pestaside. As a child those things never cross your mind.
I guess my first reply disappeared.... Hi Terrell, I know what you mean about the pesticides. My Granny's house was also nestled between two of the many cotton fields in the appropriately named town of... "Cottonport." Those were the days of crop dusting. My cousins and I would run through the field chasing the low flying planes. One day my parents found out what we were doing and put a stop to it. But I still wonder to this day when the cancer will pop up from being dusted with DDT.
DeleteHi Janet,
ReplyDeleteLove your templates! It is clean and organized. It was fun reading your blog. You writing skills are excellent. I was entertained! The personal story on the last paragraph really hit a home-run! The story was really descriptive and easy to follow. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Jasmin, Thank you for the compliment. I have never had much confidence in my writing skills. There is always a word just out of reach. Sometimes, long after the fact I will read something I wrote and it's not as bad as I thought.
DeleteLovely template! Love figs and what a nice story and memory that you shared.
